Local Election 2022

Leanne Greenwood

Leanne Greenwood

Labour Party
Milnrow & Newhey Ward

I am a mum of two who is passionate about making things better for my community. I got into politics to make a difference to people’s lives and my only aspiration is to help those who need it and make my town a better place.

I was born in Wythenshawe, Manchester but have lived in Rochdale for the last 13 years after moving here with my Rochdale born and bred husband. I am proud to call Rochdale my home.

As a trained social worker and have worked with some of the most vulnerable adults in the community. Helping those who need support is rewarding and what I love to do.

As a union rep for Unison, I have supported people to ensure they are fairly treated and helped in campaigns for better terms and conditions for workers.

The pandemic has taken a terrible toll on all of us. I am especially concerned about the hit to businesses especially those in the hospitality sector. I fully support Rochdale Labour’s plan for prosperity and the road back to recovery. If elected, I will also use my platform to highlight any ongoing issues for businesses in the ward I represent.

I am shocked and concerned about the cost of living crisis and its impact on people in this borough.  If I am elected I pledge to do my best in supporting residents to access any support that is available for those struggling the most. I will continue to campaign to highlight the very real issues families and residents face paying their bills and putting food on the table.

I am also passionate about the climate emergency. I fully support Labour’s local manifesto commitments to do our bit to tackle the climate challenge.

My pledges to my constituents are:

  • To represent your views to the Council and help you have your say so you are included in any decisions that affect you
  • Be available to you and work with other ward councillors so your issues are dealt with
  • To always be open, honest and transparent. If there is something that is not within my power to change, I will always be straight on what can be achieved. I will always work with you to try to find a solution
  • To help deliver Rochdale Labour party’s local commitments
  • To campaign on cost of living issues and for climate justice
