Local Election 2022

Dean Larder

Dean Larder

Liberal Democrat Party
Smallbridge & Firgrove Ward

Community champion Dean Larder has been reselected by Rochdale Liberal Democrats to fight for the Smallbridge and Firgrove ward in May. Known to many for his local campaigns for local safety improvements, this year he has led the work on “Firgrove in bloom” winning a silver award in the first year of the project for the gardens opposite the Crown and Shuttle. Dean has the community experience and skills to bring about real change in the ward. Dean says:

“Labour are taking the people of Smallbridge & Firgrove for granted. That needs to change. Last year we presented a petition to the Council to introduce traffic calming measures in Firgrove and the local Labour councillors voted against it in favour of a residents survey. Guess what? Nothing happened, we were lied to. Speeding is the number one concern in Firgrove. There have been three major traffic accidents in the ward in recent months and it won't be long before there is a loss of life. Instead, Labour just dream up half-cocked ideas that they think will win an election like proposing millions of pounds are spent on a train station no one has asked for? There are dozens of issues that people have brought to my attention that are simply being ignored.

Along with speeding, the issues that come up time and time again were personal safety, the environment, burglaries, theft, fly tipping, litter and a lack of investment in the infrastructure. We have just had another rise in Council tax and the police precept- but what are we actually getting for it?

As your local Councillor I pledge the following:

  • I will be available to you in person, on the phone, via email and on social media.
  • I will campaign for local residents to get a better deal from the Council.
  • I will work with GMP and with council officers to make the ward safer, cleaner and greener.
  • I will keep in touch ALL YEAR ROUND

Dean also has pledged to hold regular surgeries in the ward, keep people up to date through regular leaflets, carry out street visits and keep you updated through Facebook and other social media platforms.

Furthermore, Dean has also vowed not to become a 'town hall politician' but stay focused on his ward where he is needed.
