Local Election 2022

Vickie Mason

Vickie Mason

Liberal Democrat Party
Wardle, Shore & West Littleborough Ward

My name is Vickie Mason and I am 39 years old. I live in Littleborough with my partner and young family after relocating here from Oxford around 10 years ago.

Since moving to Littleborough I have been engaged in many community groups within the town and local area. I have been actively involved with events at Hare Hill House, LEAF (Littleborough Events and Associations Forum), Hare Hill Park, Holy Trinity PTA, Littleborough Cricket Club (Playing and volunteering) and I am the current chair and founder of the Littleborough Tangent Group. Tangent is a friendship group who help raise money for local charities; this year’s charity as voted by its members is Rochdale and District Mind. I also perform in productions with Whitworth Amateur Musical and Dramatics Society as well as playing an active role on their committee. In 2021 I help co-found the 1st ever Littleborough scarecrow festival which in its inaugural year raised over £500 for Reuse Littleborough.

As your Wardle, Shore and West Littleborough Liberal Democrat candidate I would like to highlight some area I would seek to improve in the area.

  • During 2021 we saw many incidents on our roads because of reckless driving. I want to work with RMP to improve policing in the area to avoid further unnecessary deaths and incidents in the area.
  • The cost-of-living crisis is taking its toll on many local families, and I would like to support and promote the use of the food club hosted locally within the community which provides essentials to those families hardest hit. I am keen on supporting local families with tips and recipes to help make every penny count during this challenging time.
  • During lockdown, myself and my partner Andy collected over 1,500 pieces of litter in a weeks’ worth of litter picking in and around the local area. This activity has highlighted to me just how polluted our local environment is and I am keen to work with RMBC to get more bins, maintenance of bins and signage displayed to help reduce this problem. I am also keen to see more dog waste bins distributed across the area and will work with RMP to try to encourage them to enforce fines of irresponsible dog owners who continue to leave waste on the footpaths in the area.
  • To ensure that the Greenbelt is maintained, and no new developments are built on this precious resource. Our resources within Wardle and Littleborough are already stretched, and I will work with the local teams to establish ways to improve services to our community.

During my 10 years in Littleborough I have worked tirelessly for local charities, clubs and community groups and I will bring the same level of duty, diligence, and commitment to my role as councillor for the area. A vote for me is a vote for a safer, cleaner, and inclusive Wardle, Shore and West Littleborough.
