Local Election 2008

David John Clayton

Liberal Democrat Party
Kingsway Ward

Address
31 Deepdale Avenue
Kingsway
Rochdale
OL16 4AN

I am 45 years old, married to Jane and we have three children, Catherine 18, Shaun 16 and Mark 12. We live in the centre of Kingsway ward at 31 Deepdale Avenue, near Morrison's. I have been Head of History at Crompton High School for 21 years. I have been privileged to represent Kingsway ward for the past four years.

Why should people vote for me? Well firstly I am a local candidate living in the ward. I truly believe that a local representative should live in the community they represent.

I have always endeavoured to represent all of the people in Kingsway to the best of my ability, and my guiding principle in politics is to put the interests of the ward first before party allegiance – if there is a conflict. For example, I was involved in the campaign against the Kingsway development and voted against all three parties on this issue.

Alongside my colleagues Councillor Naim Mahmud and Councillor Mark Birkett I enjoy campaigning to help make our area a safer, greener and more pleasant place to live. We have helped set up resident groups in Belfield, Moss Street area and the TAG around Milnrow Road. It is great when people come together and work for the good of our ward. I always try and be as positive as possible and highlight the success we have had e.g. stopping the immediate closure of a new high street fence for the bowlers of Buersil Bowling Club, finding funds for various youth activities and monitoring the traffic in Kingsway.

Finally can I remind all those Conservative minded voters that until we replace our unfair electoral system they might end up letting in the Labour man through the back door. Please use your vote carefully.
