Local Election 2012

Healey Ward

I want to improve the quality of our lives here in Healey Ward.

What motivates me is GETTING THINGS DONE. In my view, that is what being a Councillor is for, to achieve results for the public.

I have been successful in bringing about a number of improvements in our area, which I have outlined in my recent leaflets, and I am appealing to you to give me the extra clout and authority which being your Councillor would give to my many campaigns. I like to think there is so much more I could do for Healey.

It is unrealistic to promise that I have solutions for all the problems that face our ward. But I can promise that I will be tireless and tenacious in seeking those solutions. For example, ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR:

I have recently helped form a football club in Shawclough for youngsters. This is a far better way for them to spend their energy and time than merely hanging around on street corners.

I was also able to get cameras installed on Syke common which has deterred motor bikers from charging up and down the common. Repeat offenders can now be identified and will have their bikes impounded and destroyed. These are different approaches to preventing inconsiderate, loutish behaviour. One is prevention, the other is cure, the point is, there are solutions to the problems of bad behaviour, it can take persistence, determination and imagination, but, both approaches depend on ACTION, not hollow words, on CONCRETE RESULTS, not meaningless policy documents.

You may know that not a single Rochdale Councillor drew less in allowances than my colleague Healey Conservative Councillor Andrew Neilson, in the most recent financial year.

This is most refreshing in these days of MP’s expenses scandals, and it fits perfectly with my view that (as I have said before) a Councillors is there to achieve results for the public, not as a means of personal benefit.

“Together we can make a difference.”
