Local Election 2012

Peter N Winkler

Peter N Winkler

Conservative Party
Hopwood Hall Ward

My name is Peter Winkler and I am your Conservative party candidate for Hopwood Hall Ward in the forthcoming local elections.

I am a 31 year old, self-employed marketing consultant and have a young family. I am a Governor at Harwood Park Primary School and Vice Chairman of the Heywood, Norden & Bamford Conservative Branch. I was really pleased to be asked to represent Hopwood Hall Ward this year as I have both personal and business connections in the ward.

From the very outset I have made it my personal endeavour to prove myself as a worthwhile candidate; someone who is worthy of your vote. I want you to see that I am someone that you can trust to act in the best interests of Hopwood Hall Ward if elected.

This year, as ever, there will be a choice of candidates bidding for your vote and making promises about what they will do for you if they are elected. We can all make the same promises about what we will do; I prefer to tell you about some of the things which I have been doing for you already:

  • I have been working with the residents from the Gloucester Avenue area, helping them to have their voices heard in the planning application process for the Yearsley’s site, which threatens to devalue their homes and leave them in the shadow of a huge industrial building which will operate 24/7.
  • Acting on the concerns of residents in Hollins I have requested repairs to potholes which resulted in 22 repairs being made.
  • I have been active in opposing the withdrawal of the off-peak 167 service which runs to Manchester. This service is a vital link for many residents and has been lost due to the bus companies putting profit before the needs of their customers.
  • I have spoken out against plans by the Labour-run council to develop huge areas of green belt land between Heywood and Middleton. Plans which I and many local residents feel were totally unnecessary. These plans have now been withdrawn.
  • I met with residents of Mercers Road when they were having problems with early morning construction site traffic and helped them to resolve their problems with contractors.
  • I have requested the replacement of the damaged street name signage for Jackman Avenue.
  • I have supported the freezing of the Council Tax for a second year which was recommended by the Conservatives.
  • I have questioned the worn state of white road markings around Newhouse Road and Walton Street which are a safety requirement. These lines must be present and effective for the safety of road users and the many school children and other pedestrians.

Local elections are about local issues. Talk can be cheap, promises can be empty, and that is why I have been here proving myself by acting on your behalf, even before election time.

I hope that on Thursday 3 May you will entrust me with your vote. If you do I look forward to continuing to work for you and the other residents of Hopwood Hall Ward with official capacity and even more resources to make the ward a better place for you and your families.
