Local Election 2010

Wardle & West L'boro Ward

I have been proud to serve as your local Ward Councillor for the last six years and have worked hard with my colleagues Ashley Dearnley and Janet Darnborough to ensure that the ward has a strong voice at both Pennine Township and full Council.

During this time I served as the Portfolio Holder for Finance and despite facing an £8.2 million deficit delivered a £1 million underspend, whilst maintaining services.

This year Council Tax has risen by nearly 4% (including fire and police precepts) - more than double the national average, intermediate care homes have closed, winter road maintenance was a disaster and the roads are now riddled with potholes. Rochdale deserves better than this, and Wardle and West Littleborough deserve a much better deal.

If elected I will continue to push for significant improvement in the delivery of council services, whilst seeking to further reduce costs and lower the Council Tax. My priorities will be:

  • Lower Council Tax
  • Better street cleaning
  • More police
  • Higher priority for footpath and road repairs
  • Continued campaigning to maintain local hospital services
  • Better deal for older people, including £50 discount on Council Tax

With your support, I would very much welcome the opportunity to represent the ward for another four years.
