Ed Aadahl

UK Independence Party
Littleborough Lakeside Ward

Hello, I am pleased to be selected as your UKIP candidate.

My working life has been spent in primary education as a teacher and headteacher working in Salford and Milnrow. I have lived in Smithy Bridge for thirty three years and I am married with three children who all attended local schools.

My local priorities are:

  • Care for the elderly – Co-ordinating professional and voluntary care, this is a real priority.
  • Local business and traders – Littleborough is a great centre and the local shops and businesses deserve our support.
  • Libraries – Our libraries provide, with their hard working staff, a real centre for the community, they are a ‘must.’
  • Community groups – We are lucky, we have dedicated people who do a great job in making this a great place to live.
  • Above all – I believe a councillor should be available, approachable and sensitive to the needs of individuals and the community.

Why UKIP?

  • Europe – Well, whatever you think on this subject, the last opportunity the British public had to air their views was in a referendum in 1975. I voted ‘yes’ on that occasion for a Common Market, a free trade agreement which was a good idea. Since then we have lost control of our borders, lost control of our law making, lost control of our fishing grounds and farming policies. We are also unable to make our own trade agreements with countries outside the EU. We didn’t vote for all of this, in fact anyone under the age of 57 has not had a chance to vote at all. (I may have nearly given my age away there).Time for another referendum I think.
  • Immigration – Our present arrangements are hard to make sense of. Unskilled migrant workers around Europe are free to come to Britain while skilled workers from around the world have difficulty in gaining access. I can’t find any logic in this and at its worse it is discriminatory. There is also a problem with numbers, which at present levels is adding an extra city the size of Greater Manchester every five years. This is simply unsustainable and we are seeing the results in problems with housing, transport, schools and hospitals. This is also keeping the wages of lower paid workers down and is having a massive effect on youth unemployment which has doubled in the past ten years.

UKIPs policy is to have managed immigration based on a visa system for workers not only from Europe but from around the world who can offer skills in needed areas. It is also our policy to do a lot more for the young of this country by giving thorough careers advice and extending vocational and apprenticeship training.

These are the two ‘big’ UKIP policies, for further information visit www.ukip.org
