Local Election 2014

Andy Kelly

Andy Kelly

Liberal Democrat Party
Milnrow & Newhey Ward

Andy has been councillor for Milnrow and Newhey since 2010 and has been the leader of the Liberal Democrat group since 2012.

Married with two teenage children, Andy is a qualified youth and community worker and runs his own company supporting not for profit and public sector organisations. To date he raised over £1.3m for organisations in the North of England.

Andy’s family run a Fancy Dress Shop in Rochdale and he has a background in performing arts- particularly in musical theatre where he produces and performs in local theatre venues. He is also the UK record holder for TV game and quiz show appearances.

He has lived in Milnrow for 16 years now, which some still consider to be a “Johnny Come Lately”. In that time, he served as a parent governor and on the PTA at Moorhouse primary for 10 years, campaigned for decent parking facilities at the two Metrolink stops in the ward, dealt with hundreds of pieces of casework and supported countless groups and individuals to make the ward a more vibrant and exciting place to live.

In 2013 he successfully raised over £78,000 worth of funding to build Milnrow Skate Park. He supported various groups and projects, including Milnrow Band, the local Morris Dancing troop, Friends of the Park, and the Carnival. Andy is also a strong supporter of Ellenroad Museum, the Horticultural Society, Milnrow Lit & Sci and the Incredible Edible scheme.

As a Liberal Democrat he believes in a fair, open and democratic society, with civil liberties, freedom of speech and local decision making high on his agenda.

As Councillor for Milnrow & Newhey, he makes honest and fully informed decisions on issues that affect the ward, with the best outcome in mind for local communities; and not just following the party whip as other groups do.
