Bridgeability - Disability Football at Bridge JFC

What We Offer

Bridge have launched another groundbreaking addition/Initiative to the Club's structured development. After considerable planning over a number of seasons, their Disability Squad is now in place.

‘Bridgeability’ offers an opportunity to the disabled community to enjoy Football at no cost to the participants.

It has started with a great take up and has now got up to 30 participants every week, across a range of ages from 7/8 year olds to 17/18 year olds successfully taking part at Redwood School and aims to extend this to Hopwood Hall College (Middleton site) during this school/college year.

It is run primarily in partnership with Redwood School (where it shares its site with Oulder Hill Community School), however there is now a satellite session being established and will be delivered at Hopwood hall College in Middleton for 16 and 17 year old participants who attend 6th form at this site.

These sessions are fully open to all disabled sports activists who wish to enjoy football, regardless of levels of ability.

All comers are welcome.

The photos attached are from a recent visit to the clubs host site in Bamford and was a chance for the participants to see and experience what being part of a Footbal Club is.

It was at this session last Monday that all the kit and equipment that the club has invested in the 30 plus participants was made available to them all, (with contributions made with the support from all the local elected councillors that represent the ward the club is based in, and Greater Sport through their Sportivate programme).

The programme of activity they can now look to enjoy and take part in as part of Bridge JFCs highly successful Bridgeability initiative was also explained to parents and players attending, hopefully now the football they can look forward to can take a step on from being training sessions to actual matches.

There are a range of opportunities available over the next few months that the club will be engaged in and attending with their very enthusiastic group of young disabled participants. The most important element will be to focus on what they CAN do not what they CAN’T.
