Highlights of 2018

League results 2018 season

Generally the teams had great fun and enjoyed a very odd season from the weather viewpoint if nothing else.First we had a wet freezing start and dam busters bowling at Whitworth FP was a joy to behold! Then the hot spell set in and 'all our greens were brown' (and the sky was blue!) to misquote the Beach Boys California dreaming.'Lightning fast','like a billiard table','see that pegging'!'4 times block was ditched' are some of the more printable  remarks made by frustrated bowlers.Despite this our valient saturday morning team led by John Penman backed up by Sid Royle Stuart Lewis and others kept the green in reasonable condition .It is greening up again and the floodlit bowling has started!

The Vets got close to promotion in the C division missing out by 4 points and John Stanger came top of C division averages-well done John

In Central Lancs league our reserve C division side had a much better season reaching 5th and Captain Chris kept everyone in good cheer.'Straight to the Block' Andrew Jackson was top of reserve team averages and is one of the few who responds well to encouragement from spectators-well at least one or two of them!

Our B division team had a mixed season just below half way with Mark Davies top in club averages

Castleton and Castleton ladies had there usual ding dong battle in the Rochdale ladies league but names are so similar I can't remember who out bowled the other!

The thursday leaguers escaped the drop from division 5

League bowling news.

START OF SEASON 2018

The wet weather did not dampen enthusiasm with good turnouts for the Ladies,Thursday evening,Vets,Division 2 and reserve teams -players got out their wet weather gear.

Not everyone has a great liking for damp conditions however and a first happened for the Vets at a particularly grey stormy Whitworth FP.There were 2 players attending but only one needed for the last team place. The toss of a coin winner put the other one in to bowl! Rumour has it he can't swim.

The B team were even wetter at Crompton with an unfit ground declared at the start(must have been bad!) so match abandoned.

MID SEASON

Glorious sunshine helped both the Vets  to be at the top of its league(warmth must have loosened the Joints) Our green was like a billiard table so reigning back the power was the order of the day.B team were doing well in C division and just a few points away from top.

Due to the demise of the Central Lancashire and Pennines Crown Green Bowling Association the Central Lancashire Men’s league is now be affiliated to the Greater Manchester Crown Green Bowling Association.
