Castleton Bowling and Social Club

REVIEW OF 2020

Like all clubs the year began with preparations for the new bowling season ahead and the 2 billiards teams continued their games in the Rochdale and Bury billiards leagues.

Bury league was a new venture and enjoyable to travel to new clubs over the border.Visiting teams not surprisingly had difficulty finding our club in the dark and many a player turned up looking a bit lost-sometimes to our advantage.

Rumblings about the pandemic gathered pace and the billiards season ended early with not all games played. After a top spot season last year we ended up middle in Rochdale and about the same for Bury so not too bad.

Our green had suffered badly in 2019 from drought and became moss bound and with an impacted upper soil was going to be a challenge to get ready .Events took over and leagues were abandoned for the season.

With the help of a government grant a doughty team of members set to to renovate the green and repair the clubhouse suffering from roof leaks and damp.Weeding and general tidying up was also a top priority.

Good news is the green and clubhouse and grounds is in decent nick to start the bowling season in April 2021 and billiards again in the Autumn with the floodlit league resuming in September 2021.

Wishing all our members a happy New Year and do join up again to enjoy the great facilities for bowling, snooker and billiards in the Spring
