A VINTAGE FUTURE!

Plans to build a new station and a third platform at Castleton are far advanced, see artist impression. This development will ensure that vintage trains from Rawtenstall, Ramsbottom, Bury and Heywood would terminate at a new platform adjacent to the existing platform 2, The East Lancashire Railway plan ‘2020’. the new station at road level on the over bridge on Manchester Road will cover all three platforms and will provide good access and a drop off point at the station entrance. The potential tourist attraction of vintage steam locomotive and diesel powered heritage trains, not to mention charter mainline trains from all over the country, is huge. Add to this the proximity of lock 51 on the Rochdale Canal and the potential for leisure activities via Castleton Station is there for all to see.
