Moorhouse Methodist Church

About Moorhouse

The original Methodist Fellowship was formed around 1851, originally meeting in the home of Widow Sutcliffe on Bridge Street.  Known as Milnrow Chapel the fellowship grew and affiliated itself to the United Methodist Free church.  A chapel was built on the current site in 1853 and ten years later the members built the Sunday School to the rear of the church building.  In 1872 the church established a Day School which eventually became Moorhouse Primary School.

Attending to the spiritual needs of the local young people has been central to Moorhouse.  In the 1960's it was well known for "The Fish" Cellar Club and through into the 21st Century with the "Rock Solid" group.

In the 1980's the original church building, built in the Methodist tradition, was found to have a number of structural defects and the members took the difficult decision to demolish this building and redesign the Sunday School building into the current church and "school room" in use today.

All are welcome at Moorhouse.  We recognise that making your first steps into a Church may not be easy but we can guarantee a friendly face and a cheery Hello.  Don't worry that you may not know "what to do".  It's simple-we stand to sing, we sit to pray and we listen.  Our usual worship is a mixture of traditional and modern hymns, prayers for ourselves, for others and for the world around us.  We take a collection for the work of the church and we offer a time of informal fellowship over a cup of Fairtrade Tea or coffee and biscuits after the service on a Sunday morningChildren are welcome and come into the start of the main church service on a Sunday before leaving and going into the School room for Bible stories and activities.  We understand that small children and babies find it difficult to sit still and we know you will try and keep them quiet but don't worry about it - it's great that you come!
