Rochdale Heartbeat

Intro

Our Charity

Rochdale Heartbeat is a locally based charity which supports the coronary care units within the Borough of Rochdale and patients and their families. It is run by people like yourselves who have had coronary problems.

For You

It provides moral support for you and your family to aid your recovery. It meets every 2 weeks for a gentle exercise programme in the St Ann's (Belfield) church hall, Brocklebank Road, Rochdale, 7-30pm to 9pm for those who want to take part, or, for those who just want to chat over a cup of tea or coffee, there are plenty of members willing to talk and listen.

Normally when a patient leaves hospital after a heart attack, they will be offered a rehabilitation course which starts four weeks after the discharge. This lasts about 12 weeks at the physiotherapy unit and provides an exercise programme to help patients to a full recovery and back to a normal life.

Since 1988, Rochdale Heartbeat has offered patients an opportunity to continue their recovery programme after the NHS rehab finishes by providing the same facilities for exercise and support.

Heartbeat members know only too well that it is not just the patient who needs support but their families as well. Carers are just as worried and anxious as the patient, sometimes more so. It is often hard to understand the fears that can build up. However, feelings like that are quite normal and talking to others who have been there can be a great help and put things into perspective. Heartbeat fulfils this need. It is open to patients and their family and it has the full support of the cardiac team and the Hospital trust and you may have already met some of it members when you were in hospital when they make regular visits.
