NEWS FLASH ! Bride jilted at the altar

BRIDE JILTED AT THE ALTAR

A blushing Bride was left standing alone at the altar after her husband to be decided against marrying the woman he had just set up a surprise wedding for. But incredibly, the husband and wife to be were still smiling after their “I do” wedding became an “I don’t” wedding and ended prematurely.

How? Why? We hear you ask........ the reason is because this wedding was set up by Rochdale Movie Makers who took over St James Church in Milnrow to shoot a wedding scene for their latest film titled ‘Free’.

This film shoot has been one of Rochdale Movie Makers most ambitious amateur ventures so far. Following an announcement in the Rochdale Observer asking for wedding guests and appeals to friends and families, over 80 extras played the congregation at the church on Saturday 7th May.

Support from a number of local people and businesses for this romantic comedy production, has been fantastic. Reverend Robin Usher allowed the use of the church, Brides of Rochdale provided a stunning wedding dress for the bride and Hire Society of Littleborough offered the use of a magnificent burgundy & cream wedding car complete with chauffeur, which was quickly accepted.

Our young ‘Stephen Spielberg’ director Tommy O’Connor (age 23), handled everything with the calm assurance of a seasoned veteran. The guests rose as bride Lynsey Wright walked into the church and down the aisle, which she had to do several times showing different angles of the same scene. The film, also featured a coughing Vicar, penny sweet wedding rings and other characters to match the incredible set.

This romantic comedy will be entered into this year’s national North v South competition for Movie Making groups which attracts entries from all parts of the UK, and competes for the John Wright Trophy. Rochdale are the current holders with last year’s film “Tomorrow”. They will be making a strong effort to retain the title this year and if successful, will enhance their growing reputation in the amateur film world.

The shoot was a tribute to the organizational abilities of the club which has been in existence for over 60 years. They meet at Norden Old Library, Edenfield Road, Norden, OL11 5XE from 7:30 to 9:30 on the first and third Thursday of every month.
