Rochdale United Charities

Intro

1. Who is eligible to apply?

The area of benefit covered is the Ancient Parish of Rochdale, which includes the former County Borough of Rochdale, Castleton, Whitworth, Wardle, Littleborough, Todmorden and Saddleworth.

2. What Grants are available for

The Trustees can make grants of money or provide or pay for items, services or facilities calculated to reduce the need. They may pay for items or services by way of donations or subscriptions to institutions or organisations, which provide or undertake in return to provide items, services or facilities.

The following are examples of how the Charity may provide relief:

a) Payments to relieve sudden distress, sickness or infirmity;
b) Financial assistance towards the cost of domestic appliances;
c) Arrangements for recuperative holiday for people long deprived of such a holiday;
d) Medical aids and equipment;
e) Provision of telephones, televisions or radio sets for the lonely, bedridden or housebound.

3. Restrictions

The Trustees cannot give money directly in relief of rates, taxes or other public funds, but may give money in supplementing relief or assistance provided out of public funds.

The Trustees cannot commit themselves to renew the relief granted on any occasion in any case.

Before making grants, the Trustees have to satisfy themselves that relief is not already available from a statutory source.
