Middleton TSB to close in September

Date published: 10 May 2024

The latest blow for in-person banking has come with the news that the final TSB Bank branch in the borough will close its doors on 12 September this year.

TSB confirmed the news of the closure of the Middleton branch in a Branch Closure Review, which said: "The way customers bank with us is changing.

"Over 95% of transactions are now being made using mobile, online and other ways to bank, instead of in our branches."

The review went on: "And more customers than ever are using our Video and Telephone Banking service.
"We remain committed to face-to-face services across the country, and over 90% of our customers are within a 20 minute drive to a branch, or location of a Money Confidence Expert.

"But we want our services to reflect the current and future needs of our customers and keep open branches that are used the most, so sometimes this means that we have to close some branches. We’re here to support customers through these changes.

"So while we are closing this branch, you’ll always be able to chat with us face-to-face at other branches, Pods, Pop-ups or through Video or Telephone Banking."

The bank confirmed that 75% of personal banking customers at the Middleton branch use mobile, online or telephone banking.

That figure rose to 89% of business banking customers in the town.

If you are a member of the local community and would like to contact the TSB about these changes, you can pop into a branch.

Alternatively, if you are a personal banking customer call them on 03459 758 758, and if you're a business banking customer call the TSB on 0345 835 3858.

The TSB has vowed to write to customers before the branch closes to remind them of what's happening.
Branch colleagues will be on hand to support you until the branch closes, and can also help you register for digital banking.

The next nearest re are a number of other TSB branches you will be able to visit after 12 September, including the Manchester city centre, Market Street branch, which is seven miles away.
