Rugby league: Mayfield preview

Date published: 12 July 2024

Mayfield's NCL team has no game this week but there is still a big game on as the NWML side travel to Wigan to face Bank Quay Bulls in the NWML Trophy final.

Andy Reid's side are third in the second division while Bulls are second in the third division. Despite the lower league placing, make no mistake the Warrington based side are a quality outfit and are looking to prove their credentials in this game.

Mayfield will be aware of this and will take the game to them right from the kick off. Mayfield have a strong squad available and they will get back the players who have been deputising for the injured lads in the NCL.

Andy has resisted the temptation to put NCL players into his side saying: "These are the lads who have got us to this final and they are the lads who have put us third in the table, I have absolute confidence in this side and we can't wait for this game to start."

Club chairman Neil Ramsden said: "This should be a great final and these lads deserve to be there. Andy and Craig White have done a great job with the squad and with Rob Kershaw at captaining the side what more can we want.

"Rob has always been one of my favourite players to ever pull on a Mayfield shirt and he will be using his experience to guide this young side to victory."

Players to watch for Mayfield will be Higgs, McConnachie, Green, Ellison, Hilton and Billy Pirouzan.
