Psalm 139 (Bible Study Guidelines).

READ PSALM 139

V1-6: The all-knowing God, his omniscience. A cheering thought for redeemed sinners. God's knowledge of us begets reverence, inspires confidence and produces carefulness of conduct. How God could save someone like me is beyond understanding

V7-12: The all-present God, his omnipresence. God's presence is wherever we are. I fill but a small space in the universe, God fills all space. God is in heaven where he demonstrates his grace and love. He is also in hell, administering justice. Nowhere can we escape from his divine presence either in the glory of heaven or the terror of hell.

V13-18: This is encouragement to the Christian soul. God's thoughts of us – 1) how certain, 2) how numerous, 3) how tender, 4) how wise, 5) how practical and 6) how constant. Our thoughts of him – 1) how delightful, 2) how consoling, 3) how strengthening to faith, 4) how arousing to love.

V19-22: Psalm 1 Verse 1 – Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers.

V23-24: Self examination with the holy spirit's help. To desire God's help for any unpardoned sin and any evil habit. Lead me! Submission to the divine help and guidance. Lead me! In the way everlasting. There is but one way and we need to be led in it - it is the good old way. It does not come to an end; it leads to blessedness without end.
