It is nearly time for - Whitworth Family Fun Day and Dog Show

On Sunday 9 July, the Family Fun Day organised by the Whitworth Tourism and Leisure Committee is back between 12pm and 4pm!  There’ll be lots of attractions including face painting, a fire engine, rides, stalls, live performances by local dancers from Samba, candy floss and ice cream.  This year, following the success of last year’s event, even the family pet can get involved in the action.  Throughout the afternoon there will be dog show events taking place.  Could your dog win the waggiest tail, scruffiest mutt, cutest, finest senior, or maybe even best in show?

Register your dog in advance by visiting the Whitworth Town Council website at www.whitworth.gov.uk or by collecting an entry form from The Riverside, Whitworth Post Office and Affordable Pet and Animal Feeds.  There will be a small entry fee for the dog show of £2 and entrants will be told in advance the timing of each category that they would like to enter. 

The Spodden Valley Explorers will also be returning and are asking you to ‘bring out your finds!’.   Senior Explorers - are ready to welcome new and existing Explorers to come and prepare for a Summer of exploring (not getting lost…). There will be activities such as postcard and badge making and a specific mission where you are asked to bring along any archaeological objects you have locally - over 300 yrs old - perhaps a flint, or you’re not quite sure what it is, but it looks interesting. We will map where you found it and our expert will help tell the story behind it for you. It will help us to build up a picture of the exciting archaeology story of the local area…Get your binoculars and magnifying glasses out and ready!
