Details:

A free dementia communications course will be returning to Rochdale.

The Empowered Conversations course, which is run by social enterprise – Six Degrees – takes a different approach to communication in dementia care that is designed to help people living with dementia and their carers to find ways to stay connected, handle emotional stress and navigate the day together.

Sara Haynes, from Rochadle, attended the course when it was last in the borough in May, along with her son and dad – as her mum Ann, is living with vascular dementia.

The 45-year-old said: “I was recommended the course by a friend. I enjoyed speaking to the other participants and hearing about their experiences. It was reassuring to hear that I was not alone, and that other people were going through the same thing.

“It became a place to share experiences, challenges and worries. Also learning from others how they coped and how they interacted with their loved ones who had dementia.”

The full course is four sessions that will be held between 10.30am-1pm on Friday, September 28, October 5, 12, 19, at Castleton Community Centre, Manchester Road.

Empowered Conversations training Emma Smith said: “If you’re a friend, relative or carer of a person living with dementia, this free dementia communications training gives you time to pause, reflect and find new ways to reconnect with loved ones with dementia.

“We would love to be able to support more people in Rochdale and we still have a few places left – so please get in touch.”
