Skipton Building Society closes
Date published: 26 September 2017
The Rochdale branch of the Skipton Building Society on Yorkshire Street closed its doors for the final time on Friday 22 September.
In June this year, the society confirmed eight branches – including Rochdale - and three agencies would close in September, putting 33 jobs at risk. Alongside Rochdale, branches in Blackpool, Newby, Earby, Ivybridge, Heswall, Norwich and Wickersley also closed.
Skipton’s three agencies will occupy other businesses in Grassington, Hawes and Leyburn.
It has been reported that the decision came after the building society had ‘seen a significant decline in the number of people using the branches as customers make greater use of digital and telephone services.’
The nearest branches to Rochdale can now be found in Oldham at 23 Market Place, and 128 Market Street in Manchester city centre.
