Rochdale Training holding a ‘Weld Cup’

Date published: 11 May 2018

Rochdale Training are holding a Welding competition, titled The Weld Cup in memory of Dave Simpson.

Danny Green, Rochdale Training said: “We wanted to do something in memory of Dave Simpson, a long-standing member of the Rochdale Training Team who was an instructor in the fabrication and weld workshop, unfortunately he died earlier this year.

“As it is World Cup year, we came up with the idea of the Weld Cup.

“The participants are our engineering apprentices, around 34 of them will be taking part at both level two and level three.

“It is being held in our workshop on the 17 May and will be judged by a very experienced panel of experts from Met Connect, who are sponsoring the event and donating the prizes.

“We have invited local schools and employers to come on the day and observe, hopefully to encourage younger people to start a career in engineering.”

Prizes will be given for first, second and third place for both categories, but everyone taking part will receive a certificate, first prize is the Cros-ARC MMA welding set, second Auto Darkening welding helmet, and third PPE equipment.
