Specsavers in Rochdale donated high visibility jackets to the 12A Rochdale Smithy Bridge Beavers scout club
A local community opticians in Rochdale is helping to make sure Rochdale children are both safe and seen by donating a set of high visibility vests to a local scouts club.
The Specsavers store in Yorkshire Street has donated the vests to the 12A Rochdale Smithy Bridge Beavers after launching a campaign to increase the safety of local children by making it easier for motorists to spot them when their activities take them out into the community.
Sarah Culshaw, store director at Specsavers Rochdale, says: “We wanted to help increase the safety of children at Smithy Bridge Beavers and spread the message around the importance of being clearly visible on the roads and elsewhere.’
“As part of this initiative, we are also hoping to raise awareness of free glasses and eye tests that are available to under 16-year-olds. It is important to make sure that children have regular eye tests as an undetected problem could lead to something more severe in the long term.”
Laura Cunningham, Group Scout Leader, at the 12A Rochdale Smithy Bridge Beavers, adds: “We often take children on trips throughout the Rochdale area, so it’s imperative we keep our children safe at all times. The high visibility vests are fantastic, and we are extremely grateful to Specsavers for making such a generous donation.”
