Deckers welcomes second cohort of Redwood Secondary school students

Date published: 21 February 2023

The Real Work Project Partnership between Deckers Hospitality Group and Redwood Secondary School has entered its second year.

The project supports young people with additional needs to develop their skills and employability, with the final year of the course seeing an internship undertaken in a business environment. Last year’s programme saw one young person gaining an offer of permanent employment with The Royal Toby Restaurant, which is run by Deckers.

The internship runs for 10 weeks and students will have the chance to work in a variety of roles from hospitality to housekeeping.

Marie English, internship manager at Redwood Secondary School, said: “Through this programme, The Royal Toby Hotel is supporting our students by giving them the opportunity to learn real-life skills, facilitating their employability in the future.

“Our students are hardworking and eager to learn and have endless potential – this initiative has given them access to endless training possibilities, developing important skills in a variety of job roles and we are looking forward to building this relationship to expand the experiences of work for our interns.”

Rob Walker, retail director, added: “The Royal Toby has been part of the local community for over 30 years, and we continue to grow and cement our standing within the community by providing young people with experience and skills to take into their professional lives.

“Continuing our support with the Real Work Project has enabled us to do this further expand our relationships with the wider community. We’re extremely excited to continue our partnership with Redwood Secondary School in this project.”
