Edgar Wood pub set to reopen after refurbishment

Date published: 26 July 2023

The Edgar Wood pub in Middleton town centre will be reopening its doors on Thursday 27 July after closing for refurbishment.

During the pub’s short closure, extensive work has been carried by the Craft Union Pub Company to revitalise the inside of the pub, with new décor, and an upgraded seating area, with new booths.

Formerly known as the Dusty Miller, the Edgar Wood will be holding DJ and karaoke nights, plus quiz nights. The venue will also show live sports on its new television screens.

As well as regular entertainment, the pub will also host a range of fundraising activities for local and national charities so that everyone can get involved. Once the venue reopens, its focused charity will be The Lighthouse Project, which it has supported previously.

At the helm and ready to welcome back customers are operators Jackie and William Meechan.

The couple met in 1983 in their local pub in Scotland and were married six years later, going on to have three children.

William has worked in the industry for many years, previously working at his friend's bar, and reminiscing on his grandfather's pub. He became a full-time landlord, and since then he and Jackie have run pubs across the North West of England and began their time at the Edgar Wood five years ago.

Jackie said: “We are so pleased to be part of the Edgar Wood’s next chapter, to witness it now flourishing with its stunning new look and offerings. The refreshed interior and exterior are wonderful, and we can’t wait for you all to experience the revitalised drinks and entertainment.

“As a true community pub, William and I cannot wait to welcome everyone back in to create unforgettable moments and share the joyous atmosphere.”

To celebrate the reopening of the Edgar Wood, Jackie and William will be holding a grand launch party weekend on Friday 4 August, Saturday 5 August and Sunday 6 August.

William added: “There is so much going on throughout the weekend that customers can get involved with, and we can’t wait to see you all there.

“We have missed all of our regular customers and look forward to welcoming new faces once the doors have opened. Jackie and I cannot wait to share this exciting new era with you all.”
