Wincanton to manage Asda distribution centre on Kingsway
Date published: 07 June 2012
The new Asda distribution centre currently being constructed on Kingsway Business Park will be managed by Wincanton.
It is understood that Wincanton has been awarded a five-year contract starting in September 2012.
The 45,800 m2 new-build Rochdale Chilled Distribution Centre will pick both chilled and frozen store orders, and the contract will also see Wincanton deliver to stores and supermarkets across the North Western corridor of the M62.
Asda was said to be impressed by Wincanton‘s commitment to the local community and its pledge to work with the Rochdale Development Agency helping the long-term unemployed back into work.
The new centre creates increased capacity for Asda's network, needed due to store growth in the region, especially following last year‘s acquisition of the Netto chain.
