Chamber launches search for building of the year

Date published: 02 April 2014

Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce is beginning its search for the Building of the Year 2014.

This highly coveted accolade is now in its tenth year and, once again, the Chamber is looking for a new building that has made a significant contribution to the city region in terms of its construction, design, sustainability credentials and economic and community benefits.

Businesses from across Greater Manchester are invited to put forward their nominations, and the Chamber’s Property and Construction Committee will judge and shortlist the entries before deciding upon the winner, which will be announced at the Property and Construction sector’s Annual Dinner on Thursday 23rd October 2014 at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate.

The Apprentice of the Year award, now in its second year, will also be presented on the night to an apprentice working in a construction related role on a full apprenticeship framework. The winner will be presented with the award and a prize to the value of £1000.

Commenting on the awards, Mike Gibson, Chairman of the Chamber’s Property and Construction Committee, said: “Over the years, we’ve seen some excellent examples of buildings epitomising the very best of construction and design in our region and we are looking forward to seeing which buildings are nominated this year.”

Last year’s Building of the Year Award was won by Number One Riverside in Rochdale which impressed judges due to its ‘stunning design, its high sustainability credentials, its high quality of build and its contribution to the regeneration of Rochdale town centre.’

The Building of the Year Award will be presented to the commissioning body, not the designers or contractors, and the deadline for entries is Friday 27 June 2014.
