Integrated property services and project delivery specialist Styles and Wood has won the contract to refurbish Rochdale’s Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre.
The business has been appointed by Rochdale Council to deliver the works after the previous contractor Globe MSL went into administration earlier this year.
Styles and Wood’s projects division will complete the 25 week redevelopment project which includes demolition works, and the construction of a new entrance and atrium, containing six new escalators and two new lifts, as well as changes to individual stores’ structures.
The work is expected to attract new retailers to the scheme and increase footfall by improving the Wheatsheaf’s connection to other retail sites.
Andy Shaw, Operations Director at Styles and Wood, said: “This is an important project for Rochdale Council and the local community. The works are now ready to continue and are due to complete in spring of 2015.
“Once finished, the project will bolster the centre’s presence as a prime retail location in the centre of the town and support the wider regeneration of the area.”
Debbie Hernon, manager of the Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre, said: Debbie Hernon, Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre Manager, said: “We’re delighted that Styles and Wood have been appointed to deliver the project. The new entrance is now back on track and due to be open to the public in May 2015.”
