Source BioScience unveil new blood and tissue serology manufacturing facility in Rochdale

Date published: 11 February 2015

Source BioScience on Kingsway Business Park have today (Wednesday 11 February) launched their state of the art manufacturing facility.

The facility will allow their portfolio of blood and tissue serology products to be manufactured in Rochdale, as well as becoming the Source BioScience manufacturing centre for the group to meet the demands of the customer base which spans the country.

Source BioScience can now not only meet the demands of a UK market, but have strong intentions of moving to markets in Europe and further afield.

Tom Burr, Scientific and Technical Director at Source BioScience, said: “The aim of today was to launch our blood and tissue serology services. We have been here for a few years now and believe that Rochdale is a great site to help us get involved with the community.

“It is important that Source BioScience is in Rochdale because even though we have sites up and down the country, the North West of England is a very important place for us. Rochdale is not only a transport hub but it allows us a closer proximity to the scientific community.

“We are really proud of our new facility.”

The new manufacturing suite offers significantly improved facilities, including increased laboratory process areas to guarantee a consistent product quality, enhanced support facilities for the process equipment and a scalable product development area which will provide additional capacity for increased development.

The incorporation of this facility within the group’s manufacturing portfolio also offers access to an increased level of technical, quality and logistics resource.

Key features of the facility include a purpose-built laboratory area with Filtered Reverse Osmosis (RO) water supplies, class 5 Laminar Flow units and a high capacity 900 litre per hour processing plant and pumped system to process areas.

It further benefits from a Class 7 'positive pressure' clean room incorporating HEPA filtration units, multiple filtration points to all product process areas, UV filters to process lines, and 316 purpose-designed stainless steel process tanks including a PLC-based automatic control system incorporating multiple security levels and programmable agitation systems.

Rochdale Council Chief Executive Steve Rumbelow said: “I think it is excellent and is a fantastic facility that we have on Kingsway Business Park. It is great to see such a high end and quality facility using Rochdale and employing many local people. It is really excellent to see.”

With recent news coverage of the lack of investment in certain towns within the UK, Rochdale featuring in the Top 10 areas with no investment, Source BioScience believe that this is a significant statement by the company for industry, employment and the community as a whole within Rochdale.
