Rochdale Pilates - exercise that will condition and tone the body

Date published: 03 January 2016

Modern Pilates is a method of exercise that will condition and tone the body. Its methods are very different from many traditional types of exercise. The aim is to work muscles from the inside out, creating a stronger flatter mid section, improved posture, muscle balance, realigning the spine and improving both the function and appearance of the body.

Gillian Thomas, Modern Pilates Instructor at Rochdale Pilates Studio, explains: "Modern Pilates training programmes are only offered to physiotherapists, sports therapists and experienced and qualified exercise teachers and personal trainers.

"Modern Pilates teachers have to pass extensive theory exams, present case studies and plan both progressive and remedial programmes. The final assessment is based around hours of observed teaching and a final practical assessment."

Gillian is a fully qualified Modern Pilates Instructor; having suffered serious back injury during child birth, she took a course in exercise for the management of lower back pain and retrained in Modern pilates. She said: "Doing the back and core exercises has helped no end, I am now relatively pain free. I do not wish to mislead you, I have no cure for back pain, but I have found ways to manage it, in order that I can carry on with the job I love.”
