Hopwood Hall summer fun day

Hopwood Hall College is inviting the local community to a fun day at the Middleton campus on Saturday 20 June.

Taking place between 10am and 2pm, the event will allow people to apply for courses, speak to tutors and enjoy activities available on the day.

The open day is not only for learners and potential new students at the college, but is a day for all to enjoy, see the fantastic facilities and have a go at a range of activities.

Students and tutors will be offering the following activities on the day:

  • Ready, Steady Cook. 
  • Play doh competition, bouncy castle and a young children’s soft play area.
  • Face painting. 
  • Nails and hair styling.
  • Dental health and hygiene using giant teeth.
  • Uniformed services drill around campus. 
  • Various sporting activities, including penalty shoot-out, assault course, five-a-side football, tug of war, sack race, egg and spoon, archery.
  • Alpacas, pygmy goats, and a horse display show,  plus exotic animal handling indoors.
  • Flower arranging and planting including a plant sale from our home grown stock. 
  • Showcase of dance, drama, magic and stand-up in the Hopwood Theatre. 
  • Badges and bag printing.
  • Media students will be filming and interviewing willing attendees throughout the day.
  • Games design will showcase student games and visitors can play them too.
  • Carpentry will be making bird boxes and/or planters.
  • Giant buzz off game.
  • Motor vehicle ‘have a go’ tasks in the workshop.
  • Brickwork ‘have a go’ workshop.
  • Lighting circuit workshop. 
  • Electrical engineering 555 timer workshop. 
  • Painting and decorating ‘have a go’ activity 
  • Business, travel and accounts challenge.
  • Cabin crew mock up. 
  • ICT – try mobile apps created by our students. 
  • Punch and Judy show.
  • Barbeque run by catering staff and students providing food and drinks for sale. 

Additionally the two main college charities will be attending, Springhill and Macmillan, plus there is a poppy picnic in aid of the Royal British Legion.

Adult learners will also be able to take part in free hour long sessions to try out some of the popular community learning courses. On offer will be:

  • Cupcake design. 
  • Digital photography.
  • Pot glazing (decorate a pot and take it away with you).
  • Baby aid.

Anyone who comes along on the day can apply or enrol for a course starting in September and staff will be on hand to take people through the online application.
