Former Oldham Sixth Form College student, Rebecca Thornley, awarded an Undergraduate Science Scholarship by The Ogden Trust

Date published: 11 November 2015

Rebecca, who achieved three A*s and an A at OSFC, is currently studying Physics with Astrophysics at The University of Manchester.

The Ogden Trust sponsors students of outstanding scientific ability wishing to read for a Physics, or related, degree at a leading British university. Ogden Trust Undergraduate Science Scholarships are means-tested and are only available to students already associated with the Trust who meet certain eligibility criteria.

Undergraduate Science Scholarships are currently worth £1500 per annum for up to four years of undergraduate study. Sandra Badcock, Ogden Trust Teacher Fellow at OSFC supported Rebecca with her successful application and is delighted to hear of her success. “It’s fantastic to see our students receive the recognition and reward they truly deserve. Rebecca worked incredibly hard and it’s been a privilege to have supported her during the time she spent with us at OSFC.”

Rebecca said, “I was really happy to get the scholarship and it will make such a big difference to my finances at university. It will mean I don’t have to worry about finding part time work to pay for textbooks and I can really focus on my studies and assignments. I was thinking I might also spend some of the money on a good telescope which will help me with my astrophysics.”

Rebecca wanted to thank The Ogden Trust and all the staff at OSFC who supported her application. “Sandra was amazing. Her support allowed me to have lots of opportunities to get involved with The Ogden Trust. I had to complete an application and personal statement to gain the scholarship which was a real challenge during my exams. I’m really thankful to The Ogden Trust as this extra support will be a great help.”
