Four students from Year 7 and Year 8 attended the University of Manchester for a Salters’ Institute Festival of Chemistry. The Salters’ Institute Festivals of Chemistry are a series of popular and inspiring one day Chemistry events held at Universities and Colleges across the UK. The festival provided the opportunity for the students to spend a day in the university department and to take part in practical chemistry activities which were fun! Students experienced exciting hands-on practical Chemistry challenges in University labs, carried out investigations “like a real Chemist”, worked well in a team to independently solve a problem and saw the Amazing FLASH BANG POP SHOW. The students who attended received a certificate for taking part. Well done to: Haniyyah Parvaiz, Deacon Hulme, Elliot Farrell and Oyin Owolabi.

Year 7 and 8 High Achievers in Maths recently participated in the Junior Maths Challenge. 28 students achieved enough marks for a certificate; with 18 gaining bronze, 8 gaining silver and 2 gaining gold; very well done. A special mention for Year 7 student Nicholas Robinson who has been selected to participate in the Maths Challenge Kangaroo which is the next stage of the competition.

The Year 10 English Individual Speaking Assessment will take place on Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th July. A letter has been sent home about this, and is on the school website. Please ask your child to see their English teacher if they have any questions about this.
