Oulder Hill beat Siddal Moor

Date published: 24 September 2013

In the first match of their secondary school football careers, the new Year 7s beat Siddal Moor 9-0. Oliver Godwin opened the scoring after creating space superbly, he slotted the ball home to calm the opening nerves.

Goals followed from Thomas Johnson [2], Brad Gregory [2] and Joe Noon [2] before Oliver Godwin scored his second directly from a corner. Patrick Hadfield beat the excellent Siddal Moor keeper with a left foot drive. This was a team victory though.

Very little got through the defence and when our keeper Kyle Bins had to deal with a shot, he saved athletically diving to his left. The full squad was: Kyle Binns, Andrew Hill, Steven Johnson, Thomas Johnson, Ryan Larkin, Jack Ashton, Harry Toogood, Oliver Godwin, Bradley Gregory, Daniel Collins, Joe Noon and Patrick Hadfield.

On Wednesday 16 October, Year 11 will be having their first Immersion day. This day will be all about Interviews, College applications and writing Personal Statements. In preparation for Immersion Day we are giving pupils the chance to apply for a job that interests them, from the selection available in school. On Immersion day, successful applicants will be interviewed by outside agencies to give them practice for future interviews. Please encourage your child to apply! It will be a great experience for them.

Parents of Year 11 students, please keep an eye on the My Future page on the school website, we will post on there the details of the College Open Evenings and application deadline dates. We will, of course, work with your child on this in school. Please have a chat at home about their options too. Choices will need to be made soon! Please contact Mrs Sanderson or Ms Newell if you are concerned.

43 Year 10 Art students are going to visit Yorkshire Sculpture Park on Tuesday 1 October. It is part of the GCSE course to study other artist’s work and the work at the YSP is always inspiring. There are two indoor galleries but most of the art work is outside which is unusual. Students will have a tour of the gallery spaces and then the opportunity to take photos and create sketches on the day. When we return to school the students will create their own art work inspired by the visit.

A Year 7 Matters Evening will be held on Wednesday 2 October, for parents and carers of Year 7 students. The evening will offer advice on the school’s Pastoral Support structure, clarifying the roles of Form Tutors and the Year Manager. Offer advice on how to support your child with homework. How to understand your child’s progress reports and using the school’s VLE and more, including the Parent Forum, Extended Schools and Gifted & Talented opportunities. If you would like to attend the evening, please contact Mrs Birtwistle on 01706 645522 or by the school email address, schoolinfo@oulderhill-school.com

We would like to thank all prospective students and families who attended our Open Evening and Day. We hope you enjoyed your visit around the school and facilities, and we look forward to welcoming you to Oulder Hill again in the future.
