Falinge Park Dance Class teach Healey Primary pupils
Date published: 21 January 2016
In December 2015 the Year 9 GCSE Dance Class started to work on Leadership Skills. They worked hard on their Chance piece of Dance based on the choreography of Contemporary Dancer and Choreographer Merce Cunningham.
As a group they decided that instead of just performing the piece they would like to take it into a Primary School and workshop for the piece.
This would involve leading sessions with Primary pupils including set phrases, creative development and warm ups.
The group looked at what made a good leader and practised their Leadership skills in lessons.
Pupils were each given turns to lead the warm up and then started developing their teaching sections.
On Monday 18 and Wednesday 20 January 2016 the Year 9 Pupils went into Healey Primary School Rochdale and led workshops with 28 Year 6 pupils, culminating in a final performance.
All the Year 6 and 9 pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience and all enjoyed a compelling learning experience.
Well done to Year 9 pupils and thanks to pupils and staff at Healey Primary School.
