Year 8 students in the Rochdale School Sports Hall Athletics

This week a group of year 8 students took part in the Rochdale School Sports Hall Athletics competition. They came up against 6 other schools from across the borough battling it out over sprint races, long distances races, long jump, speed bounce and many others.

Miss Hatton said: “Every single student worked extremely hard and put 100% into each even they took part in.

“Special mention needs to go to Harvey Holden for a fantastic shot put throw and Kai Smith for completing over 70 jumps in 30 seconds on the speed bounce.

“Ellie Gillespie won her 6 lap race by a full length of the sports hall and Nondja Tavares had us all on the edge of our seats during her 4 lap race.

“The relays were both equally exciting. Over all the boys team stole the show and came in 1st place and the girls came in 3rd.

“With all the fantastic performances and excitement, I cannot wait for the summer athletics season to begin”.

Musical Liturgy Group and Pupil Chaplains

The Musical Liturgy group and pupil chaplains sang beautifully a celebration mass at Holy Family last Sunday in the presence of the Bishop.

Thank you to Mr Turner for all his hard work with these special young people who thoroughly enjoy expressing their faith through music.

Chaplaincy News: Holy Family Parish welcomes Bishop John

Fr Gaspar invited St Cuthbert's to join Holy Family parishioners for a special celebration Mass with Bishop John on Sunday 24 January.

In addition to our pupils who attend Mass regularly at Holy Family, some of whom are also altar servers, our Music Liturgy Group and members of the Pupil Chaplaincy team represented school.

Bishop John was delighted with the welcome he received at Holy Family and in his homily, challenged us to think about what God's purpose and plan is for us as part of a vibrant and diverse Christian community.

Our musicians and choir, led by Mr Turner, sang beautiful Taize chants during Holy Communion and joined Holy Family's choir, harmonising during the singing of the hymns.

They received great praise from Bishop John, Fr Gaspar and parishioners who have spoken to us already about being involved in a Youth Mass at Holy Family.

After Mass, there were refreshments and time for everyone to meet Bishop John and Fr Steven Parkinson, the Bishop's Secretary.
