Man performed sex act after joining online chat between school children from Heywood
Date published: 05 February 2016
A man performed a sex act on himself after joining an online chat between a group of schoolchildren from Heywood.
Several pupils were talking on ooVoo when one accepted the offender’s request to chat.
The man began talking to the children and then they realised he was performing a sexual act on himself.
Teachers alerted the police after the children reported the incident, which happened on Thursday 28 January.
GMP Heywood and Middleton issued a warning to parents: “Neighbourhood Police have recently been alerted by some young people of issues they have experienced when using the social network site ‘oovoo’. Luckily they had the awareness thanks to the great lessons they have had around internet safety through their school to inform a teacher who in turn contacted us.
"We would like to particularly draw you attention to the ‘oovoo’ guide surrounding privacy settings.”
