‘Good’ quality rating for Greater Manchester Police

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) treats the public fairly, according to Government inspectors.
The Inspectorate of Constabulary assessed the culture of the force and judged officers to behave fairly, ethically and within the law.
The Inspectorate surveyed the public, all police ranks and data from the force, as well as making unannounced visits to police stations.
Across England and Wales only one force was judged to be outstanding; 37, like GMP, were judged good; five required improvement and none were considered inadequate.
HMIC’s Mike Cunningham said: “In general, Greater Manchester Police performed well. The force recognised the need to move from a culture focused on numerical performance targets, to one capable of providing improved service with diminishing resources.
“The majority of police officers and staff we spoke to felt the culture was improving.”
