Rochdale bands excel at Festival

Date published: 17 February 2016

Wardle Academy Junior and Rochdale Borough Youth excelled at the Action Medical Research Youth Entertainment Festival of Great Britain at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool, on Sunday (14 February).

Wardle Academy, conducted by Gwen Smith, came fifth achieving music prizes position four, best march and band with most potential.

Gwen Smith, conductor said: “I’m really proud of the band's performance in Blackpool, it was great to see our younger musicians stepping up to the challenge of playing at a competitive level, it’s a great experience for them. Coming fourth in music shows that our brass bands at Wardle are thriving and I feel privileged to be working with them. Like the adjudicators said, they are little stars.”

Rochdale Borough Youth, conducted by Ben Dixon, came sixth.
