Wardle Academy’s World Book Day Celebrations

Date published: 09 March 2016

Wardle Academy celebrated World Book Day in style on Thursday 3 March, with staff fancy dress and several book themed activities in the library.

Over 20 staff from different departments chose characters from famous books and dressed up for the day. To name a few, the English department dressed up as characters from ‘The Great Gatsby’, the Technology department chose ‘Robin Hood’, Science staff came in to school as characters from Roald Dahl’s books and the admin staff picked the theme of ‘The Wizard of Oz’.

Pupils entered a competition to ‘Spot the Character’ and prizes were awarded for correct entries.

At lunchtime, Year 7 and 8 students took part in a Literary Fiction Quiz in teams of four. After three exciting rounds of questions, the results were announced and prizes awarded.

After school, six teams of players gathered in the Library for a Literary Treasure Hunt. In teams, pupils had to solve 10 clues and answer three questions attached to each clue. There were 30 points ‘up for grabs’ and after an hour of fun, superb teamwork and intense concentration, three teams tied for 1st place on 27 points.

We also had a large numbers of entries for our ‘Short Story’ and ‘Book Cover Design’ competitions. All entries will be judged over the next few days and results announced this week.
