Red, white and blue for Milnrow & Newhey 48th Carnival

In its 48th year, Milnrow & Newhey Carnival and Summer Fete is set to take place on Saturday 11 June with a parade and  followed by the summer fete at Milnrow Memorial Park.

In recognition of the Queen's 90th birthday, carnival organisers are asking groups to incorporate red, white and blue into their decorations and/or costumes. 

A fleet of bubble cars will lead the parade with Milnrow Brass Band, the Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale and the Carnival Queens.

Local schools are supporting the event with entries received so far from: 

  • Crossgates Primary School
  • Moorhouse Primary School
  • Newhey Community Primary School
  • St Thomas C of E Primary School
  • Milnrow Parish C of E School

  • Captain Jack Sparrow look-a-like. 

Broad Carr Riding School and Oldham & District Mini Club will be taking part in the parade. Oldham & District Mini Club has been established since 1994 and is a family friendly club that has a passion for all things Mini.

Another addition to the parade this year will be a fleet of bubble cars. These cars are on tour in the area. The group attend rallies and shows all over the country and are covered in classic car magazines, books, photo shoots and interviews. The cars will be on display at the Milnrow Memorial Park after the parade.

Entry is free to the park where Soul City Sounds will be headlining the live music. Soul City Sounds is a local band paying tribute to the classic pop hits of yesteryear, playing classic cuts from the soulful sounds of Motown, Stax, and more. Featuring veterans of the local music scene, they boast male and female vocals and a spectacular horn section for a touch of class and authenticity.

At the park there will be a funfair which caters for all ages will be open to the public from Thursday 9 June to Sunday 12 June inclusive.

At the summer fete there will be paintball, crazy golf, face painting and a professional compare and DJ for the afternoon with many fun activities.

There will be a variety of stalls and a raffle will be held with first prize £100, second prize a luxury hamper and third prize a meal for two at a local venue. Other prizes will be on offer plus bonus on-the-spot draws throughout the afternoon.
