The Springhill Hospice Dog Show and Country Fete was bathed in glorious sunshine as around a thousand people enjoyed the day at Rochdale Riding Club Showground on Roch Valley Way on Sunday 5 June 2016.

Mayor Ray Dutton and Mayoress Elaine Dutton attended along with MP for Heywood & Middleton, Liz McInnes.

Hundreds of dogs were entered into a variety of dog shows which took place throughout the afternoon.

Children had plenty to do including watching Punch & Judy, a magic show, enjoying donkey rides, meeting the animals from Cherwell Farm Animal Petting Zoo and a hawk and owl display, along with a vintage funfair, bouncy castles and zorb balls to enjoy.

Roch Valley Radio Roadshow kept the atmosphere lively with music. There was also entertainment from a number of local dance groups, a craft market and stalls, with lots of places to enjoy a variety of food that was on offer.

Councillor Carol Wardle started the Country Fete in 2014 when she was Mayor, and Springhill Hospice took on the event for the first time last year.

Springhill Hospice CEO Julie Halliwell, who was one of the judges at the dog show, said: “We have learned a lot since we took over the Country Fete from Carol Wardle.

“Last year we had about 20 dogs for the dog show, this year we have hundreds.

“The weather is brilliant, and it is great to see so many families here.”
