Hundreds of people braved the rain to enjoy the annual Milnrow Carnival on Saturday (11 June).

People with umbrellas lined Huddersfield Road as the rain persisted throughout, but that did not dampen the spirits of those taking part.

Milnrow Brass Band fronted the parade, which began in Newhey at 1.00pm, followed by various extravagant floats and cars, with even the odd farm animal taking part in the fun.

Mayor Ray Dutton walked along with the crowds and took time to chat with local children who were waiting to meet him.

As the rain finally subsided, crowds moved into Milnrow Memorial Park to enjoy an afternoon of live music, paintballing and hot and cold food.

Organiser Claire Kierans said: “We were worried with the floods but we did everything to make sure it still went ahead. I’m glad it all went ahead as usual.”
