Hare Hill Extra Care Facility wins Rochdale Borough Design Award

Date published: 21 June 2016

Hare Hill Extra Care Facility in Littleborough has won the Rochdale Borough Design Award.

Hare Hill, which opened in summer 2015, is the borough’s first purpose-built Extra Care scheme. The 41 apartments enable residents to lead independent lives with the reassurance that help is available whenever needed.

Clare Tostevin, RBH Director of Communities, said: “We’re really proud of Hare Hill which has provided a step change in the provision of homes for older people in Rochdale and has created a fantastic community facility at the heart of Littleborough. The input of our tenants and the wider community in the design process was invaluable and we’re thrilled that Hare Hill has received such prestigious recognition.

We’re also very pleased that the hard work of the team at Q Gardens had rightly been recognised and rewarded by the Design Awards judges.”

Middleton Jubilee Library won the ‘People’s Design Award’.

‘Q Gardens’ in Kirkholt and ‘Copper Wells’ in Heywood received ‘Special Commendation’ from the judges.

The awards were presented by Councillor Linda Robinson.

Councillor Robinson said: “I visited all the buildings and it was a real privilege. As well as the quality, what really struck me and all the judges was how well they were being used by the local community.

"It’s important to promote good design in the private and public sector and I thank everyone who has taken part. I hope we can encourage more people to enter these awards next year.”

The awards celebrate the best in new development design, focusing on the relationship between good design and building successful communities.
