Council unblocks drains in Milnrow

Date published: 27 June 2016

The council has unblocked drains and gullies around Milnrow as the village recovers from recent floods.

Emergency services were called to various parts of Milnrow earlier this month after heavy downpours left some parts under water, largely around the bottom on Kiln Lane and Dale Street.

The Bobbin pub suffered water damage and is currently undergoing refurbishment.

Councillor Andy Kelly said, "The drains (gullies) at the bottom of Kiln Lane/Dale Street were cleaned out by workmen and then the council machine came did its job on them all.

"There was a considerable blockage in them all. Many people will also have spotted the vehicle going round our area this week doing the gullies.

"There is also a separate piece of work now taking place in the connecting drain at the Working Men's Club which drains into the river. This should hopefully stop the flooding at the bottom of Cornfield Street and Rosemary Care Home.”

He added: "Councillor Irene Davidson and I met with a council officer along with Philip Holt from Carpet Creation and Kieran Binns from The Bobbin and we have been informed that the Kiln Lane/Dale street gullies will now be cleaned three times a year instead of once. This is great news."
