Danczuk's former deli struck off

Date published: 19 July 2016

Cafe On The Walk Ltd, formerly Danczuk's Deli, the family business of Labour MP Simon Danczuk and his former wife Karen, has been struck off.

Notice has appeared in the London Gazette confirming the demise of the business.

Despite Mrs Danczuk claiming last year that she had sold the business, the business name was simply changed to Cafe On The Walk Ltd and her father, Martin Burke, appointed as a director.

Both Danczuk's remained 50-50 shareholders according to Companies House.

The striking off comes as the last set of accounts and the annual return for the business have not been filed.

Last year, the landlord of the premises previously occupied by the deli, in The Walk in Rochdale town centre, obtained a County Court Judgment (CCJ) for £2045.32 plus £217 costs for non payment of rent:

Rochdale Online reported in April this year that Mrs Danczuk was being pursued by Rochdale Borough Council for business rates outstanding from the now defunct deli:

The strike off will heap further embarrassment upon the MP who is the Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Small Shops Group.

Hansard shows that between November 2013 and July 2014, he name checked his business in the House of Commons on five separate occasions.

Mr Danczuk, who remains suspended from the Labour Party, is no stranger to business failure, his company Vision 21 folded after he entered parliament owing a six figure sum to the tax man.
