New motorway link proposed for Heywood

Date published: 29 July 2016

Russell Homes has applied to build to build a new link road between Junction 19 of the M62 and the South Heywood employment area (Hareshill Road and Pilsworth Road), alongside supporting development, including a new employment park, housing and associated retail and community uses.”

Heavy goods vehicles use Pilsworth Road, Croft Lane and Hollins Brow as a cut-through route to Manchester Road, despite weight restrictions of 7.5 tonnes per truck on all three roads, which has promoted the proposed plans.

A recent public exhibition held in Heywood attracted over 200 people who wanted to know more about the possible new link.

Daniel Kershaw, director at Russell Homes, said: “The public exhibitions we held recently were intended to provide local residents and businesses with the chance to view and comment on our initial thoughts for new development at south Heywood, including a new link road from Junction 19 of the M62.

“Over the course of the two days, approximately 200 people stopped by to view the plans, with many providing useful feedback.

“Subject to planning, these proposals would be a major investment in south Heywood, creating thousands of new jobs and providing much-needed housing and commercial units for the borough.”
