Lions' highest award for Zoe Renshaw

Date published: 15 August 2016

Zoe Renshaw was presented with a Bert Mason Humanitarian Award in recognition of her outstanding work and humanity by members of Littleborough & District Lions Club.

Lion Harry Hawksworth, Littleborough & District Lions said: “Zoe holds down a full time and demanding job in the building industry and is involved with a number of community groups, including Littleborough Lions and the Littleborough Events and Associations Forum (LEAF)

“Zoe is also Chairwoman of the Ellenroad Steam Museum and, along with the team of volunteers there, is responsible for the maintenance of the Engine house, the steam engines and other machinery on site.

“Zoe suffers from the debilitating Crohn’s Disease; the treatment of which involves frequent hospitalisation, but does not let that get in her way.

“She has run in two London marathons and organises concerts/gigs to raise money for Crohn’s & Colitis UK to research into these diseases. She also supports fellow sufferers to let them know that they are not on their own."

Bert Mason was born in 1919 and had a distinguished career as an officer in WWII and was seriously wounded in action.”

In 1958, Bert became the Charter president of Belfast Lions Club and moved up the ladder of Lionism until, in 1984, he took on the highest office, as International President.
